    Themed Women's Group: Mental Health

Our evening will be around the theme of “normalizing mental health struggles”. We will use a similar format as our previous meetings. This will include, facilitator led, small group sharing and listening on how we can help and encourage one another in the realization that we all struggle, and that is OK!  (This is always optional and according to your comfort to share- you may simply listen). Some have wondered what this is all about? and who is this for?…

The Goal of Women’s Mental Support group is to: Support (as non-professionals) women-to-women, Help each other to thrive, Foster hope, Normalize, Shed shame and stigmas, Point to Jesus, Pray together, Nonjudgment & empathetic environment, and Speaking truth in love.

  • The Olive Branch

1 in 4 women experience abuse in some form. While it’s often unspoken, it is real and closer than we think—affecting women who may be suffering in silence. The Olive Branch is a safe, confidential, and nurturing space for women navigating the impact of abuse, abuse-related trauma, and harmful or destructive relationships.

We welcome those who have experienced any form of abuse—physical, emotional, spiritual, sexual, financial, neglect, abandonment, etc. —recognizing that none of these reflect God’s love or His design. Every experience is met with compassion, dignity, and without judgment. We also support women affected indirectly by abusers - a trusting adult hurting other individual(s) other than yourself, as well as those in unhealthy or destructive family or marital environments where the fruit often bears resemblance to abuse whether intentional or unintentional.

We understand the courage it takes to face these realities and the lasting impact they carry. This group exists because the journey through abuse can be painful, confusing, and isolating—but no experience or emotion is ever “too big” here. Through faith, compassion, and truth, we create space for healing, restoration, and growth. We are non-professionals supporting, encouraging, and uplifting one another.

We believe in confronting harm while holding onto hope. Scars are not shameful—they tell a story of survival, strength, and resilience. You are beautiful, worthy, and deeply valued. God is a God of redemption, refinement, and rebirth. As written in Psalm 139:14, “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

Together, we seek to break cycles of harm, restore identity and self-worth, and walk forward in truth, freedom, and renewed purpose. This is a place to be seen, heard, and loved.

Please be aware that this group is not intended for observation, curiosity, or gathering information about those who attend.

Looking ahead - we have begun a pilot program that has been going well and plan to fully launch this support group this fall. If you or someone you know could benefit from this  or would like more information, please reach out to a member of the Women’s Support Committee (Sisters Janis Moser, Joni Moser, Kim Schneider, Heidi Virkler, and Noami Walder) or send us an email (womenssupport@ellingtonacchurch.org)—all communication is kept confidential

If you’re interested in attending, please read the Overview & Guidelines to ensure you understand and agree with them.

  • Women’s Groups

Women’s groups are a place to develop relationships within the church family and less of a place of deep crisis. At this time we are placing less emphasis/responsibility on facilitator expectations and running a Women’s Group. As they have become more mainstream with 5+ years of history, the amount of direct assistance seems to not be as necessary as when they first started. However, if you are needing additional help creating your own, please feel free to reach out and/or see the additional links below.

  • Stepping into Your Spiritual Gifts

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant [...] Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God with worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit worketh all in all. (1 Corinthians 12 vs. 1,4-7)

Have you ever wondered if there could be more depth to your spiritual life? Do you long to find your place and deeper purpose within our church family? Discovering and exploring your Spiritual Gift(s) could help in this. How wonderful it is to know you are essential and integral to the health and function of the body of Christ!

As believers, we are all called to cultivate the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance (Galatians 5:22-23). But have you considered how these essential qualities pour into the unique spiritual gifts God has given you? Discovering and exploring your spiritual gifts can open doors to serving with greater impact and deeper fulfillment.

Paul compared the church to a physical body in 1 Corinthians 12, reminding us that every part is essential for the body of Christ to fully thrive. You are integral to God’s work. He has uniquely created and shaped you into the woman you are today.

Take the time to discover your spiritual gifts, and you will find a deeper sense of belonging, fulfillment, and alignment with God’s will as you step into them humbly, in love for the Lord. When you walk in the gifts He has given you, you not only strengthen your own faith but also uplift and edify the entire body of Christ.

Let us encourage one another in this journey of faith and service, using our gifts to glorify God and bless those around us!

    Become Matched With A Mentor:

You don’t have to face life’s challenges alone. Whether you need guidance or feel called to support someone else, mentorship provides a powerful way to grow, encourage, and walk alongside others.

    Ask For An Advocate

Women’s Support would like to mention that in addition to pairing up mentors and mentees, we also offer advocacy to those who benefit from it. Where mentoring is walking alongside to help build confidence, clarity and personal growth/strength over time, advocacy is stepping in to speak or act on someone’s behalf whenthey cannot safely or effectively do so themselves. Mentoring involves two people where the mentor walks beside the mentee vs. advocacy involves someone standing up for someone in need to a third party. Examples of advocacy could be interceding in conversations where one feels overwhelmed, overlooked, scared, or the conversation is too emotional or hard for them to have on their own. This could be with church leadership, in a family unit or navigating a system. These are very unique interventions that while not common are necessary for emotional safety. If you feel like this would be something helpful to you, please reach out to any of the sisters who are a part of Women’s Support, Sisters Joni Moser, Janis Moser, Kim Schneider, Naomi Walder or Heidi Virkler, to be placed with someone who can best advocate for you.
