May 31st
May 31, 2020
Greetings! The following are the Announcements from Sunday May 31, 2020
1. The Adult Bible Class will be held next Sunday morning at 9:00 AM.
2. Sunday School Reminders:
Our current Sunday School year will finish out over the next two weeks, ending on June 7. We will then take a 3-week break and start up with new classes in July. We feel it would be good to give the students a break from the screen and technology for 3 weeks.
There will be no Sunday School on June 14, 21, & 28.
We will switch classes with students moving into the next grade on July 5 on Zoom.
Additionally, We will be looking at how new State Guidelines may impact Sunday School activities moving forward and will keep everyone posted as decisions are made.
3. Update on Collection:
We have completed our Spring collection and wanted to express tremendous appreciation for everyone’s participation. Donations actually exceed last year. We will be distributing this money per our past guidelines and if you have any questions feel free to reach out to Bro. Doug Schneider. We did decide that we will hold our fall collection in September or early October. Later this year we will consider postponing the 2020 collection of fellowship hall intentions until next year so as not to burden anyone. More to come later in the year based on the economic situation.
4. Website Change:
If you visit our church website, you will notice a change in its look and feel starting tomorrow. This change was necessary as the old website platform was no longer being supported.
5. Reopening Update:
- With State of Connecticut guidelines changing this past week here are some updates on our reopening schedule and plan:
- Currently our intention is to move our re-opening date up to June 14 assuming that we meet the 14 day threshold of new cases in Tolland County, which appears likely if current trends continue.
- Guidance now allows 100 person gatherings.
- We will be using the Main Assembly only and not the Sunday School Assembly for worship services, Sunday Morning, Afternoon and Wednesday evening.
- Sign up process is going to change:
- First we will be including a sign-up process with the weekly email this week to gather the total number of people who plan to participate. We need this number for planning purposes and will simply be asking are you planning to attend in-person church services.
- Next, as we get close to the 14th, we will be using a weekly sign-up process asking what service you wish to attend. This means if you intend to go to church, you will need to sign up for one of the services available every week. Additionally, we will build the sign-up process so that everyone has an equal opportunity to attend the service of their choice.
- This will mean that parents of younger children will need to manage the impact and personal decisions around the attending church themselves.
- It also means we are encouraging you to sign up for a different service time each week if possible.
- Please be patient with the sign-up process as we implement and work out the modifications to ensure everyone has an equal chance to get to the services that work for them.
- If you do not have access to the weekly email or website, please work with someone close to you who does. We want everyone included and will do all we can to help make that happen.
- Additionally, we are planning to have an outdoor service, which is now available for up to 150 people, someone between June 14th and Mid-July if possible. However, this outdoor service will be available to those 65 and over or those with health issues that do not allow them to meet in the sanctuary. Please work with us on this as again we are trying to accommodate something for everyone as best as we can.
- Further we are looking at using the outside services and gatherings of 100 for potential baptism services this summer sometime before Labor Day. A number of details need to be worked out to do this, but more to come in the next few weeks.
- Brothers Brent Walder and Jon Zahner will be giving their next Covid-19 update next Sunday night at 7PM. Bro. Tom Bahler, who is leading the reopening work for us will be joining them to give further details on how reopening will work.
- Finally, we want to be clear that these in-person services are optional, anyone who is not comfortable being in large gatherings should not feel any obligation to attend them. Zoom services will continue as long as needed during the pandemic for those unable or uncomfortable attending in-person services.
